After three days to manually recount more than 7,000 ballots in the contested Republican primary for Brazos County precinct two commission, there is no change in the numbers.
The recount that began last Friday and ended Tuesday (March 24) afternoon still left Kyle Greenwood ten votes shy of reaching a majority.
Greenwood, with 49.87 percent of the primary vote, faces a May 26th runoff against Jordan Januse, who received just over 34 percent of the primary vote.
The recount also confirmed 329 undervotes, where those voters chose not to select any of the three primary candidates.
Elections administrator Trudy Hancock said the cost of the recount was $1,684 dollars. $1,344 was for the counting team and $340 was for copies. Greenwood paid a $2,900 dollar deposit at the time he requested the recount.
Greenwood posted on his campaign Facebook page “This week’s hand recount was an important step in ensuring every vote was counted accurately by the machines, especially in a race decided by such a narrow margin. I want to sincerely thank Brazos County Elections Administrator Trudy Hancock and her team for their time, professionalism, and commitment to a thorough and transparent process. These efforts require long hours and careful attention to detail, and our community benefits from their dedication. Thank you as well to the volunteers, observers, and election workers who participated. Fair and accurate elections depend on the work of many, and that responsibility matters.”
