The unanimous vote to name the next president at Texas A&M involved eight of the nine members of the board of regents.
Returning from injuries sustained in a fall that required hospitalization was chairman Bob Albritton of Fort Worth.
Albritton was welcomed back by vice chairman Jay Graham of Houston, who presided at Monday’s meeting which was conducted by conference call.
Graham told Albritton “it was great to hear your voice, it is truly a blessing to have you on this call” and “you gave us a big scare and we hope you’re feeling much better”.
Albritton thanked Graham and added “it’s been a scare but I’m here and that’s all that matters”.
Albritton is the second regent to be hospitalized in six months. Bill Mahomes of Dallas was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism after feeling light-headed during a regents meeting in College Station last November.
Absent from Monday’s special meeting of the regents was David Baggett of Houston.
