Texas Transportation Commission Takes Final Action To Widen Rudder Freeway

The Texas Transportation Commission has approved the 2019 Unified Transportation Program (UTP).

The UTP is a 10-year statewide plan for transportation project development.

Two projects included in the plan today will greatly improve SH 6 in Brazos County.

Both projects on SH 6 will make improvements include, but not limited to, six-lane conversion three-lanes in each direction), interchange improvements, innovative interchange designs, collector distributors roads, and bicycle/pedestrian accommodations

The first SH 6 improvement project is from SH 21 to BS-6R-South. This project letting is anticipated for September of 2021. This project is estimated at $174 million dollars for construction costs.

The second SH 6 improvement project is from BS-6R-South to SH 40. This project letting is anticipated for September of 2024. This project is estimated at approximately $42 million dollars for construction costs.

The Bryan District of TxDOT, in conjunction with the Bryan/College Station Metropolitan Planning Organization, will begin project development by holding public meetings to better define the appropriate improvements.
