Texas Sends Former All-Star Closer Feliz to Minors

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) _ The Texas Rangers have sent former All-Star closer Neftali Feliz to the minor leagues.

Feliz, the closer for the Rangers when they went to their only World Series in 2010 and 2011, was optioned Tuesday to Triple-A Round Rock.

Texas also added right-hander Daniel McCutchen from its minor league camp as a non-roster invitee, and signed catcher Chris Snyder to a minor league contract with an invitation to the major league camp. Left-handers Rafael Perez and Aaron Poreda were assigned to Round Rock.

The Rangers made Feliz a starter in 2012. He was 3-1 with a 3.16 ERA in eight games before Tommy John ligament replacement surgery.

A reliever again, Feliz was given a chance to compete for the closer role this spring, but Joakim Soria won that job.
