Texas A&M Police Giving Presentations on Campus Carry

Texas A&M University police are giving presentations to faculty, staff and students to help them better understand the new campus carry law, which went into effect on August 1st.

Chris Meyer, Assistant Vice President for Safety and Security, said the presentations cover what is legal and illegal about breaking concealment, how to interpret new signage, and how to request gun-free areas.

“For specific offices, for specific laboratories, research programs, there are criteria that the president has set out that he would consider approving,” said Meyer.

The presentations include questions from the audience. Meyer said common questions include how to properly store your firearms and what to do if you see someone else break concealment.

As students return to Bryan-College Station, presentations will be more geared towards them. Meyer said an extensive presentation will be held on September 13th during Campus Safety Awareness Week.
