The 46-year-old Sarkisian has spent the last 2 years with the Crimson Tide, where he has helped lead the offense to 47.68 pts/game and 522.4 yds/game.
He had two previous head coaching stints at Washington (2009-13) and USC (2014-15). Sarkisian was let go by the Trojans midway through the 2015 season before entering a substance-abuse program.
He replaces Tom Herman, who was fired after going 32-18 in four seasons at Texas.
