AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ The Travis County District Attorney’s Office has launched a criminal investigation into the actions of three Texas military commanders.
Gregg Cox with the DA’s Public Integrity Division says the office is working with State Auditor John Keel on complaints against three top generals.
KHOU-TV reports the generals were allegedly “double-dipping” — collecting paychecks from the state while simultaneously performing work for the federal government for which they were also paid.
State Sen. Steve Ogden, who chairs the Senate Finance Committee, this week asked the state auditor to review department records of Adjutant Gen. Charles Rodriguez. He’s the top commander of the Texas Military Forces.
None of the three could immediately be reached for comment.
KHOU reports that last week, Chief Gonda Moncada of the Texas Air National Guard said the allegations stem from a busy 2008 period during multiple hurricanes.
Gov. Rick Perry recently announced that Rodriguez, Furlow, and Dehnert were being removed from their positions.
