Texas Gas Prices Skyrocket

IRVING, Texas (AP) _ The political instability spreading across the oil-producing nations of the Middle East and North Africa is blamed for a surge in the retail price of gasoline at pumps across Texas and the nation.

The weekly AAA Texas price survey released Thursday found that the average price of a gallon of unleaded regular grade gasoline rose 9 cents this week to $3.08 in Texas and $3.23 nationally.

The most expensive average price of unleaded regular gasoline at Texas pumps was $3.12 per gallon in Amarillo, a 13-cent increase from last week, with prices topping $3.10 per gallon in Dallas-Fort Worth and El Paso. The least expensive gasoline in Texas was in San Antonio, where regular unleaded averaged $3.04 per gallon, a 9-cent increase from last week.
