Texas Education Chief Eyes Stimulus Money

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Texas Education Commissioner Robert Scott says a plan to spend billions in federal stimulus money will be ready by next week.

Scott today said about two-thirds of the $3.9 billion in education stimulus money for Texas should arrive by late March. The rest is expected in the fall.

Gov. Rick Perry will determine how to spend about $700 million. Legislators and the education commissioner will weigh in on how to spend about $3.2 billion.

Scott told a Texas House committee that he wants to coordinate with legislative budget writers.
