Texas Comptroller Mistakenly Posts Public Records

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ The state comptroller says the social security numbers, some birthdates and other personal information of about 3.5 million Texans were accidentally posted on computer servers.

Most of the information was available for anyone to access for more than year. In some cases, birthdates and driver license numbers were included.

Comptroller Susan Combs said Monday the information posted by mistake including data transferred by the Teacher Retirement System of Texas, the Texas Workforce Commission and the Employees Retirement System of Texas. All transfers were in the first five months of last year.

The statement said there is no indication any of the personal information was misused.

On Wednesday, the comptroller’s office will begin sending out letters notifying those affected.
