Texas A&M’s Parsons Mounted Cavalry in the Rose Parade

The iconic New Year’s Day Rose Parade began in 1890.

Tuesday, for the first time ever, Texas A&M will be represented. Parsons Mounted Cavalry is one of 18 equestrian units in the parade.

Bob Byrns, Cavalry Site Manager and Advisor, says it is a huge honor.

“Our commander this year, is our first woman commander, her name is Rose Marshall, she also happens to be from Pasadena, California, so that’s double special,” said Byrns.

Bryns said the three day trip to California has been heavily supported by the Aggie network.

“We had to stop every night, the cadets sleep with the horses, and there’s a group of Aggies, you know former students, that come and feed us at every stop and then send us on our way. It is just really neat to see the Aggie network in operation,” said Byrns.

Tuesday’s Rose Parade coverage starts at 10 a.m. CT.
