Texas A&M is getting a new chief academic officer. President Susan Ballabina posted on her website that current provost Alan Sams will not seek a second term. Dr. Sams was named interim provost in August 2022 and was given the position on a permanent basis in May 2023. Ballabina plans on naming a new provost by January. She says the selection process will include an outside search firm and a search committee that will consider internal and external candidates.

Ballabina also announced in the same online message that she has elevated A&M’s vice president of research to report directly to her. The research VP, Angela Wilson, started two months ago to lead A&M’s $1.4 billion dollar division.
