Texas A&M’s Gavrilovska, Bhosale Garner All-SEC Honors

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M’s Saska Gavrilovska (pronounced saush-ka  gav-ril-ahv-ska) was named First Team All-SEC for women’s tennis, and Aggie teammate Rutuja Bhosale (pronounced roo-too-jah bo-slay) was named Second Team All-SEC, the Southeastern Conference announced today.

Gavrilovska went 7-6 in SEC matches only, all at the top of the lineup, including a season-best 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-4 win against then-No. 9 Jasmine Lee in A&M’s crucial 5-2 win against Mississippi State on March 11.

Bhosale, No. 75 in the ITA singles rankings, is tied for the team lead in victories with a 19-11 overall record, as well as a 13-7 mark in dual matches only. In SEC matches only, she went 7-5, going 4-3 at the No. 2 line and 3-2 at the No. 3 line, and finished the regular season riding a four-match win streak.

In doubles, Bhosale and partner Anna Mamalat are ranked No. 77 in the ITA with a team-leading 22-5 overall record. They are 14-3 in dual matches only, including 7-1 in conference matches only after closing out the regular season riding a seven-match win streak.

The 18th-ranked Aggies (16-10) now await the NCAA Tennis Selection Show and the announcement of the 64-team NCAA Championship field on Tuesday, May 3 at 4 p.m. on NCAA.com. A&M, which advanced to the Round of 16 last year, is expecting to make its 17th consecutive and 22nd overall appearance in the postseason tournament.
