The Brazos County Historical Commission has presented a Texas Treasure Business Award to Ronnie Dicharo of Sam’s Shoe Service in Bryan. The Texas Treasure Business Award comes from the Texas Historical Commission, recognizing businesses in continuous operation for at least 50 years. According to the Brazos County Historical Commission’s website, “For more than 75 years, Sam’s Shoe Service in Bryan has done exactly that. Founded in 1950 by Sam Dicharo and now operated by his son Ronnie, this family-owned business has become a local treasure through its dedication to quality craftsmanship and community service.” The Texas Historical Commission’s website says since 2005, over 700 Texas businesses have been honored for their historic significance with this award.

North Zulch First Baptist Church Opens A Coffee House Business

First Baptist Church of North Zulch has opened a non-profit, church-operated coffee house business. First Brew Coffee House is open Monday through Saturday. From a church news release, Pastor Matt Murray said “First Brew Coffee House is an extension of our mission to reach people right where they are and serve our community in a practical, welcoming way”. Murray also said “We’re excited to open our doors and create a space where people can connect, feel at home, and be encouraged.” The news release also says the business has “a vision to serve the community through intentional outreach, genuine connection, and radical generosity.” The business is located at 11616 5th Street in North Zulch.
