Texas A&M Women’s Tennis Heads to Kentucky and Tennessee

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 2 Texas A&M women’s tennis team travels to face Kentucky and No. 7 Tennessee this weekend.

Friday’s match against the Wildcats is 4 p.m. at the Boone Tennis Complex, while Sunday’s contest versus the Volunteers is 12 p.m. at Barksdale Stadium.

The Maroon & White secured second place in the conference last week after downing No. 9 LSU, 6-1, improving their overall record to 17-2 and 8-1 in the SEC.

The Aggies are led by back-to-back SEC Player of the Year, Mary Stoiana, who rates as the No. 2 singles player in the nation. The senior has won SEC Player of the Week twice this year and leads the team in ranked wins with 15.

No. 17 Nicole Khirin, who garnered All-American status this fall, is second on the team in ranked wins, holding an 11-4 record in ranked matchups. The junior leads the team in total victories, posting a 26-5 season record.

No. 61 Mia Kupres is 18-5 this season and 7-2 in SEC play. The junior is 8-2 in her last 10 matches and owns four ranked victories, which is the third most on the team.

The reigning SEC Freshman of the Year, No. 40 Lucciana Perez, has won nine consecutive matches and is undefeated in SEC play (8-0). The sophomore holds a 17-3 season record with two ranked wins.

No. 80 Daria Smetannikov and Lexington Reed round out the lineup for the Maroon & White. Smetannikov is second on the team in total wins with 24 and tied for third on the team with three ranked victories. Reed is 5-1 in SEC play and third on the team in total wins with 20.

Texas A&M is 10-14 against Kentucky (9-8, 3-6 SEC) all-time. The Wildcats feature two ranked singles players in No. 59 Zoe Hammond and No. 95 Julia Zhu, and one ranked doubles team in No. 65 Elizabeth Eades/Elizabeth Stevens.

The Aggies hold a 15-7 all-time record versus Tennessee (13-3, 7-2 SEC). The Volunteers boast three ranked singles players in No. 7 Elza Tomase, No. 32 Catherine Aulia and No. 92 Leyla Britez Risso. Tennessee also features three ranked duos, including No. 44 Aulia/Risso, No. 51 Tomase/Aulia and No. 59 Tomase/Elim Yan.
