Texas A&M Women’s Golf in Third After Day One of Bryan Regional

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 12 Texas A&M women’s golf team placed third after the first round of the Bryan Regional on Monday after firing a 1-under 287 at Traditions Club.

“It wasn’t very pretty but we had a good outing,” head coach Gerrod Chadwell said. “This course is tough but if you would have told me that we would be under par this morning after the round, I would have taken it. Hole locations were very tough today, but I am proud of the way they competed. We are excited to get back out there tomorrow and play in front of the 12th Man.”

The Aggies were one stroke behind SMU and LSU for the lead with Clemson (+3) and Iowa State (+5) rounding out the top five. The Maroon & White were seven strokes above the cut at the conclusion of the first day.

Adela Cernousek led A&M in solo fifth after going 2-under 70 on Monday. The junior was one shot above par heading into the back nine, but birdies on Nos. 11, 12 and 15 shot her up the leaderboard. The Antibes, France, native was two shots back of LSU’s Ingrid Lingblad and Latanna Stone and SMU’s Mackenzie Lee for the individual lead.

Freshman Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio tied for sixth and went 1-under 71. She posted a clean 35 on the front nine and a 36 on the final nine. Jennie Park and Blanca Fernández García-Poggio both held onto a share of 15th, firing a 1-over 73 after 18 holes. Zoe Slaughter rounded out the lineup tied for 46th with a 5-over 77.

The Aggies will tee off from No. 1 on Tuesday at 8 a.m. For live stats, fans can go to Golfstat.com to keep up with the action.
