Texas A&M Women’s Golf Has SEC Golfer of the Week

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M’s Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio was named SEC Golfer of the Week for the second time this season after her dominant individual performance at the 2025 “Mo” Morial Invitational, the league announced Wednesday.
Fernández García-Poggio won the Mo by three shots for her second collegiate victory with a score of 2-under 214. Her performance helped lead the Aggies to a 38-shot triumph for their first team championship of the season.
The sophomore leads the team with a 71.4 stroke average and is only the second golfer in program history to earn multiple golfer of the week honors by the league in the same year (Maddie Szeryk – 2017, 2018).
Fernández García-Poggio’s first golfer of the week recognition came after her first collegiate win at the Charles Schwab Collegiate.
Including Vanessa Borovilos’s three SEC weekly honors – one SEC Golfer of the Week, two SEC Freshman of the Week – the Aggies have now secured the most weekly accolades in a single year in program history (5). The previous record was four held by the 2017-18 team.
The Spaniard has the Aggies ranked No. 16 in the nation ahead of the SEC Championships April 14-18. The league tournament will take place in Belleair, Florida, at the Pelican Golf Club. The Aggies have advanced to the championship match each of the past two years and won the SEC title in 2023. Fernández García-Poggio is 3-0 in match play at SECs and finished tied for eighth in stroke play last season.
