Texas A&M Women’s Golf Finishes Runner Up in Fort Worth

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

FORT WORTH – Texas A&M’s Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio won the first individual title of her career and led the Aggies into a runner-up finish at the Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate at Ridglea Country Club Tuesday to wrap up the fall season.

“We were in it right until the very end,” head coach Gerrod Chadwell said. “We battled and were very tough today and this week. This was a good note to end the fall on because I felt like we got better every tournament. I was really proud of Cata and Vanessa for how they played. They both competed extremely well. I am excited for our girls to have the offseason here to rest and get ready for the spring.”

The No. 19 Aggies shot a 1-over 285 on the final day and fell to No. 15 Wake Forest by two shots for the team championship. The runner-up performance was the highest finish for the Maroon & White this season.

Fernández García-Poggio shot 3-under 68 on Tuesday to secure the title, besting her teammate, freshman Vanessa Borovilos, by two strokes. The Madrid, Spain, native fired a 4-under 209 thru 54 holes and was the first Aggie to win a championship this season.

Borovilos recorded the best outing of her young career, tying for second with a 2-under 211 on the week. This was the first time that Borovilos had cracked the top 10 this season.

All-American Adela Cernousek tied for 17th with a 5-over 218 and extended her top 20 streak to 12-consecutive tournaments. Kynadie Adams rose 13 spots on the individual leaderboard after shooting a 1-under 70 in the final round. Adams tied for 29th and Lauren Nguyen rounded out the starters tied for 48th.

Sky Sudberry shot 12-over 225 and took home a share of 37th as an individual.
