POSTGAME QUOTES

Head Coach Joni Taylor
On the team fighting back after a slow start…
“It was a terrible start to the game. It looked like we were out of sync from not playing. We had been off for a while, and although we practiced, we still had some miscues. Our pace wasn’t good offensively or defensively. We called a timeout to address those things and settled in late in the first quarter. I thought we closed the first quarter well and we remained steady. The third quarter was huge for us because Syracuse plays really well in the third quarter. I thought we ended the game really well.”

On Janae Kent and Taliyah Parker registering career-high performances…
“Janae had a great week of practice. She came back from the Bahamas with a different focus. I think she just continues to raise the bar and I’m happy she was able to benefit from the work she put in this week. Taliyah is a dynamic freshman. She’s fun to watch, she can absolutely score the basketball, and she defends. When you are subbing in with Janae, Taliyah and [Aicha Coulibaly], we can continue to keep coming at that position with great size. Overall, I was really happy to see both of them play well.”

Sophomore Janae Kent
On her preparation after returning from the Bahamas…
“After the Bahamas, I had to take a look in the mirror and figure out what I wanted this year to look like for me and for this team. I knew I had to take a bigger step, and when I got back, I immediately went to the gym just trying to get better for my teammates. I know this team needs me to be at 100% and be healthy, so I changed my mindset and tried to just be who I really am.

Freshman Taliyah Parker
On the win and recording a career-high 14 points…
“This win was very important. Both teams were 4-4, so we knew the mindset that both teams were coming in with. We took pride in the little things that we do to prepare. With my confidence and my teammates’ confidence, they know when I get the ball I go to the basket. My teammates trust me, so I am very thankful for them.”
