PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – The Texas A&M women’s basketball team fell to the Ball State Cardinals, 62-75, in the second round of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament at Imperial Arena at Atlantis Paradise Island Bahamas Sunday.
Aicha Coulibaly poured in a season-high 24 points, including 17 in the second half, on 9-of-15 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. Lauren Ware patrolled the paint by matching her season best of four blocked shots and hauled in 10 boards.
The Aggies started the game on a 7-3 run, but Ball State took over and raced out to a 20-12 lead at the end of the first.
In the second quarter, Texas A&M got down by as much as 18, but ended the frame by making six of its last eight field goals, closing the gap to 10 (41-31) in favor of the Cardinals. The offense was ignited by Kyndall Hunter who reentered the game after leaving for injury and poured in eight points in the quarter with two triples.
By the first media timeout of the second half, the Maroon & White had chopped the Cardinals’ lead down to 48-42 with Coulibaly scoring 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting and going 3-of-3 from the charity stripe and at one point 15 straight for the Aggies. However, the rest of the period went Ball State’s way, as it pushed its lead back to double-digits for a 59-48 score going into the final 10.
Ball State retained the lead and took down the Maroon & White by a count of 75-62.
The Aggies take on Southern Miss at 7:30 p.m. on FloCollege in the final round in the Battle 4 Atlantis Monday.
