News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
The Bryan city council had questions, but expressed no opposition, to a request by a committee of Bryan firefighters to change their work schedule. There was a 60 minute discussion at Tuesday’s council workshop meeting (January 13) to change the schedule of working 24 hours followed by two days off, to working 48 hours followed by four days off. Click HERE to read and download the summary of the BFD committee’s report. BFD Lt. Walter Noel, who presented the department’s yearlong study, says this will improve recruiting and retaining firefighters. The timing comes as BFD tries fill 20 openings with a recruiting class that starts next week. Noel says the change is supported by 94 percent of those who respond to fire and ambulance calls. Also participating in the discussion was fire chief Richard Guisti. The chief and Noel fielded questions on subjects that included firefighter fatigue, where firefighters live, and other jobs that firefighters have. City manager Andrew Nelson says there will be additional input by other departments before final action is considered. Bryan police report an officer received medical treatment after they were cut on the face while at the scene of a criminal trespassing call last weekend. That’s among the reasons why 34 year old Ronnie Renard Williams of College Station returned to jail for the fifth time in less than two years. He is charged with last Sunday’s (January 11th) assault of the officer and a warrant accusing him of a stabbing last July at a car wash on West Villa Maria. Court records show Williams is on probation after pleading guilty to a felony injury crime that took place in October of 2024. As of January 14, Williams remains held in lieu of bonds totaling $120,000 dollars on the charges of injuring the officer and the car wash stabbing. News release from Bryan police: On July 16th, 2025, at approximately 5:38 a.m., BPD responded to the 1600 block of West Villa Maria Road for a reported stabbing. Officers arrived and located one victim who was transported to the hospital to receive medical attention. On January 12th, 2026, Ronnie Williams of College Station, Texas was served one warrant of arrest for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Williams is currently in custody at the Brazos County Detention Center. On January 11th, 2026, Williams was arrested by BPD for assaulting a BPD Officer.
