Texas A&M vs Texas Football Game Moved to Friday After Thanksgiving

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION — The annual Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown football rivalry game between Texas A&M and Texas will move from Saturday, Nov. 29 to Friday, Nov. 28 in Austin for 2025. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m., the schools announced Thursday. The 2024 renewal was played at Kyle Field on Saturday, Nov. 30 with 109,028 in attendance.

The last time this Thanksgiving weekend tradition was played in Austin was 2010 with the Aggies posting a 24-17 victory on Thanksgiving Day to earn a share of the Big 12 South Championship.

The football series was played on Fridays after Thanksgiving from 1996 through 2007, as well as two Friday kickoffs in 1974 and 1975. That 1975 version was played at Kyle Field with Texas A&M ranked No. 2 in the land and Texas ranked No. 5. The Aggies clinched a share of the Southwest Conference Championship with a 20-10 victory.

The 1994 and 1995 matchups were not played on Thanksgiving weekend. Texas A&M prevailed 34-10 on Saturday, Nov. 5, 1994, in Austin and Texas won the 1995 clash at Kyle Field, 16-6, on Saturday, Dec. 2.
