Texas A&M Volleyball Sweeps Mississippi State

The No. 14 Texas A&M volleyball team secured its sixth-straight win and fourth-consecutive sweep after downing Mississippi State behind Kyndal Stowers’ offensive masterclass Sunday afternoon at Reed Arena, 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 28-26).

The Aggies (10-5, 3-0 SEC) swept the Bulldogs (11-3, 1-2 SEC) to secure their 10th win of the season behind Kyndal Stowers’ program-record outing. The senior accounted for 26.5 points in the three-set contest, which she achieved through 21 kills, a career-high five aces and one block to ensure A&M’s win.

The game opened with back-and-forth scoring, as the programs found level on five occasions and were knotted at seven. The Bulldogs strung together a run to lead 18-15, however it was instantly countered with a 10-4 streak in favor of A&M, spurred by Stowers. The outside hitter logged four of her six set one kills in the run including the final three to seal it, 25-22.

In similar fashion to the first, Texas A&M and Mississippi State battled through the early stages, siding out for the first 12 points of the frame. The Aggies were able to pull away with a 5-1 run, capped by an ace from Margot Manning which forced a Bulldog timeout, 17-13. The Maroon & White continued their push, never letting the visitors close the gap as they took the set, 25-20.

Texas A&M jumped out to a 6-4 advantage in the third behind the service of Stowers recording back-to-back aces which marked her fifth of the match. The Aggies and Mississippi State continued to exchange points late into the set finding level at 20. The Maroon & White pulled away on a 4-0 run taking them to set point, however, the Bulldogs battled back with a run of their own to send the frame to extras. Mississippi State found itself with a pair of set points, but A&M rallied to take the frame, 28-26, and match, 3-0.

The Aggies head to Oklahoma to face the Sooners Wednesday evening at the McCasland Field House with first serve set for 6 p.m., the game airs on the SEC Network.
