BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M volleyball team fell to Mississippi State Sunday afternoon in Reed Arena, 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-18).
The Aggies (15-5, 6-4 SEC) dropped an offensive shootout to the Bulldogs (10-8, 4-5 SEC), as both teams recorded 45 kills in the three-set match. Mississippi State took the edge on efficiency, which was the difference in the fixture, as it hit .361 percent on the day, while the Maroon & White hit .226.
A&M came out of the gate firing, as it forged a four-point lead at the midway point of the first frame, 15-11. Mississippi State responded with a streak of its own to lead (19-18). The team’s then traded points to be knotted at 21, but the Bulldogs broke the tie with a 4-0 run to take the opener (25-21).
A back-and-forth battle started the second set, and it was the Aggies who found a small advantage at the media timeout, 15-13. Mississippi State once again found its rhythm late and doubled its advantage in the match (25-18), 2-0.
The Bulldogs carried their momentum into the third frame, as they led by four at the half-way point (15-11). Despite a fight from the Maroon & White, the Bulldogs managed to hold their advantage and close out the set (25-18) and match, 3-0.
