News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M track & field’s Auhmad Robinson and Aleksandr Solovev earned SEC weekly honors following standout performances at the McFerrin-12 Degree Invitational, the league announced Tuesday.
Robinson was named SEC Men’s Runner of the Week following a school-record breaking showing in the 300m. The senior crossed the line in 32.34 which shot him up the all-time collegiate record books to the No. 3 performer all time and marked the No. 4 performance in NCAA history. Robinson was also a key member of the Aggies’ 4x400m relay which closed the meet on top with a mark of 3:05.80, which ranks as the No. 1 time in the country.
Solovev secured the first weekly honor of his career after being named SEC Men’s Freshman of the Week after a debut victory in the men’s pole vault. The freshman cleared 5.56m/18-3 in his first event to seal the victory and land him at the top of the national ranks in the event. His mark also entered him in the Aggies record books at No. 2 all-time, sitting only behind A&M Olympian Jacob Wooten.
The Aggies return to action this weekend, as they head to the Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas, which runs from Jan. 17-18.
