News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
BIRMINGHAM – The Texas A&M track & field team secured a trio of SEC weekly honors following a dominant showing at the 44 Farms Team invitational, the league announced Tuesday.
Auhmad Robinson claimed his second-straight SEC Men’s Runner of the Week honor and his fourth weekly award this season, following a pair of wins over the weekend. He opened in the 200m, where he ran an all-conditions best time of 20.21 to rank third nationally in the event this year. He followed that up the next day, running the third leg of the 4x400m relay and extending the Aggies lead to help secure the win with a mark of 3:02.26 which is No. 2 in the country behind only their own national-leading time.
Sofia Yakushina put on a heptathlon campaign for the ages to earn SEC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, as she broke the NCAA freshman record with a staggering 6,260 points. Yakushina dominated over the two-day competition, securing personal-best performances in the 100m hurdles (13.51), 200m (23.48), javelin (43.07m/141-4) and 800m (2:12.72) which led to her career-high total (6,260). Her mark debuted her in the A&M history books at No. 3 and ranks her 10th all time in the NCAA heptathlon event.
Penelope Gracey claimed her first SEC weekly honor, as she was named SEC Freshman of the Week following her victory in the 5,000m over the weekend. Gracey crossed the line in a personal-best time of 16:57.46, besting her closest opposition by 10 seconds.
The Aggies head back on the road, as they travel to Eugene for the Oregon Team Invitational which runs from April 18-19 at Hayward Field.
