HOUSTON – Texas A&M track & field’s Aleksandr Solovev climbed to No. 4 in the Aggie pole vault all-time standings at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight Saturday at the Wendel D. Ley Track & Holloway Field.
Solovev highlighted the day for the Aggies, as he continues to climb the A&M all-time performers list after a clearance of 5.61m/18-4.75 which ranks him fourth in program history. The Maroon & White swept the remaining podium spots, as Leo Bowen (5.16m/16-11.25) and Jack Mann III (5.16m/16-11.25) placed second and third, respectively.
On the women’s side of the pole vault, Heather Abadie captured her third crown of the season after a clearance of 3.96m/13-0. A&M also captured second and third in the event, with an identical mark of 3.81m/12-6, courtesy of Riley Floerke and Ava Riche, respectively.
The Aggies’ podium-filled day wasn’t over in the field, as Abigail Martin won her fourth discus event of the outdoor season with a throw of 54.41m/178-6. Carlie Weiser also finished right behind in second after a toss of 50.22m/164-9. On the men’s side Ethan Sanders finished fourth after a mark of 52.67m/172-10.
McKenzie Fairchild secured the women’s final win in the field on the day with a mark of 48.97m/160-8, while Ana De La Garza placed fifth after a throw of 42.50m/139-5.
On the track Shewaye Johnson claimed first win of the outdoor campaign in the 5,000m after crossing the line in a personal-best time of 16:26.81. That mark debuts her at No. 7 on the all-time list. Carter Gordy on the men’s side ensured A&M’s sweep of the event, as he clocked a career-best time of 14:27.86 for the win.
Rounding out the victories for the day was Iliya Dryaba in the men’s open 200m after recording a time of 21.97, and Tyler Lowe in the women’s open 400 with a time of 54.48.
A&M also tacked on another record book performance in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase, after Staucie Lees crossed the line in 10:48.41 which was good for No. 7 all-time.
