Texas A&M Track & Field Runs Three Top-Five Times at Battle of the Bayou

BATON ROUGE – The Texas A&M track & field team ran three top-five times in the world this year and claimed six event wins, 11 all-time marks and 25 personal bests across the Battle on the Bayou and Stanford Invitational this weekend.

Sam Whitmarsh put the nation on notice in his season debut of the 800m. The junior ran 1:44.46 which is the collegiate leading time, the mark also ranks as No. 2 on the Texas A&M all-time list, the eighth-fastest time in NCAA history and No. 4 mark in the world this year.

The one-two punch of Ja’Qualon Scott and Connor Schulman continued to dominate in the hurdles, as they ran the top-two times in the country this year. Scott claimed the event title in a personal-best time of 13.34 which moved him up to No. 3 on the all-time list, while Schulman ran a season-best 13.42 for second. The duo’s marks also rank at No. 2 and No. 3 in the world this year.

The women’s 4x400m relay team of Nissi Kabongo, Jaydan Wood, Kennedy Wade and Jermaisha Arnold brought the team event win total to six, setting their season-best time of 3:29.51 which places the group second in the nation. The men’s quartet of Scott, Jevon O’Bryant, Auhmad Robinson and Kimar Farquharson finished runner-up in a photo finish, crossing the line in 3:00.80. That mark ranks No. 7 in A&M history and second in the country this season.

A trio of Aggies laid down top-five nationally ranking marks in the 400m events. Robinson and Farquharson both set personal bests in the event to place fourth (45.42) and fifth (45.70), respectively. The top-five finishers secured the five fastest-times in the nation this year. Arnold on the women’s side placed second in her event, bringing it home in 51.24 and now ranks third in the country.

Moving to the field, the Maroon & White secured four more top-five finishes. Abigail Martin broke her personal best in the discus with a throw of 56.92m/186-9. The mark ranks her as the No. 1 freshman in the country in the event and No. 11 overall. Kabongo entered the Aggie history books in the high jump at the No. 9 spot, finishing third in the event soaring over 1.80m/5-10.75, while Timara Chapman her a career day clearing 1.75m/5-8.75 for fourth. Carter Bajoit in the men’s high jump event wrapped the top-five finishers, as he claimed third with a leap of 2.10m/6-10.75.

Carlie Weiser also added an all-time mark to the long list in the discus, tossing 51.32m/168-4 for ninth in the record book, while Bailey Goggans moved up the ranks in the women’s 800m to the No. 5 spot with a time of 2:04.24.

Over the two days of competition, the Aggies registered 25 personal-best performances with 18 coming on the track and seven in the field.
