Texas A&M Track & Field Ready for Weekend Action

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M Track and Field returns to action this week as it splits travel between the Battle on the Bayou in Louisiana and the Raleigh Relays in North Carolina March 28-29.

The Maroon & White continue their regular-season campaign at two locations, with a party of 60 heading to Baton Rouge, while a distance group of 11 travels to Raleigh. The Aggies trip to the Bayou marks the second-straight year at the meet, while the distance group returns to the Raleigh Relays following a one-year break with their last visit being in 2023.

Last Time Out

A&M dominated its first meet of the outdoor season in San Antonio, coming home with eighteen total wins out of 31 events entered. The first day of the meet saw four Aggies claim victories, including a sweep of the 5,000m titles for the men and women courtesy of Penelope Gracey and Aiden Gonzalez-Rodiles. McKenzie Fairchild secured her first win of the year in the javelin, while Staucie Lees claimed the women’s 3,000m steeplechase crown.

On the final day of the UTSA Invitational, fourteen other Aggies got in the win column. Event winners on the women’s side included Abigail Martin in the discus, pole vaulter Heather Abadie, the women’s 4x100m relay team comprised of Jaiya Covington, Camryn Dickson, Bria Bullard and Jasmine Montgomery, Jasmine Harmon in the 100m hurdles, Dickson in the 100m, Kennedy Wade in the 200m, Jaydan Wood in the 400m and Debora Cherono in the 800m.

Moving to the men’s squad, event winners included triple jumper Jaden Harris, Ernest Campbell in the 100m, Blake Holland in the 200m, Ondrej Gajdos in the 800m, Victor Kibiego in the 1,500m and the men’s 4x400m, consisting of Bryce McCray, DeMarco Escobar, Musa Isah and Eric Hemphill III.

 

The Field

The Aggies heading to Louisiana will compete against twelve teams, including Alabama, Arizona State, Baylor, Indiana, Kansas, LSU, Michigan, Mississippi State, Missouri, Ole Miss, Penn State and USC.

In North Carolina the group will face off against a stacked field made up of over 200 teams from around the country, with around 2,800 athletes entered in the meet.

 

Top-Ranked Aggies

After the opening weeks action, the Aggies have six members of the team ranked in the top-10 nationally in their respective events. Dickson leads the way at the top of the 100m leaderboard with a time of 11.06 and is a member of the 4x100m team including Montgomery, Covington and Bullard who also pace the nation with a mark of 43.43. Other top-10 ranks for the women include Wade in the 200m who sits fifth in 23.20 and Martin in the discus with toss of 57.16m/187-6.

On the men’s side, Jaydon Shield ranks seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 15.56m/51-0.75, while Holland holds 10th in the 200m with his time of 20.80.
