LUBBOCK – The Texas A&M track & field team heads on the road for the first time this year as it travels to the Sports Performance Center at Texas Tech for the Corky Classic Jan. 17-18. Events on the opening day start at 3 p.m., while events on the second day begin at 11 a.m.

The Aggies travel to Lubbock following a standout showing at home at the McFerrin-12 Degree Invitational, where they secured a new school record, 12 event wins, 16 personal bests and nine top-12 marks in team history.

Auhmad Robinson garnered national attention as he recorded a blazing time of 32.34 in the 300m that broke the A&M school record. That time also slots Robinson as the No. 3 all-time collegiate performer in the event. Robinsons’ record-breaking performance earned a nod from the USTFCCCA, as the organization named him Men’s National Athlete of the Week, while the conference office also named him SEC Men’s Runner of the Week.

A&M recorded 12 event victories at the McFerrin-12 Degree Invitational, including Aleksandr Solovev claiming the men’s pole vault title in his collegiate debut. Other event winners included Cooper Cawthra (1,000m), John Baker (long jump), Gavin Champ (triple jump), Megan Roberts (3,000m), Zack Munger (3,000m), Carter Bajoit (high jump), Robinson (300m), Kennedy Wade (400m), Antonie Nortje (400m), Maddie Jones (800m) and the men’s 4x400m relay that was comprised of DeMarco Escobar, Cutler Zamzow, Robinson and Kimar Farquharson.

The record books were updated after the home opener, with nine athletes breaking into the top-12 spots in A&M history. The men’s 1,000m headlined the new additions to the list, as Cawthra, Caden Norris and Gilbert Rono are now listed second, third and fourth place, respectively in the event all-time.

Heading into the second week of the season, the Maroon and White have several athletes currently leading the nation in their respective events. On the men’s side, Nortje and Farquharson are first and second, respectively, in the 400m standings, the 4x400m relay is the fastest in the nation, Solovev also paces the nation in the pole vault standings, Baker is third in the country for long jump and Champ holds second place nationally in the triple jump standings.
