BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M track & field team splits travel as it heads to the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Florida, and Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California, April 11-13.
The Aggies have impressed through the first four weeks of outdoor competition, as both the men’s and women’s groups are ranked No. 1 in the country by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Texas A&M also has four individual national leaders, with two on the track and two in the field. Timara Chapman made her heptathlon debut at the 44 Farms Team Invitational last weekend, the senior racked up a personal best total of 6,219 points to win the event. The total leads the nation and ranks her second in the Aggie history books. Lamara Distin continued her incredible run of form from the indoor season, as she leaped 1.96m/6-5 in her outdoor opener to take the national lead. Sam Whitmarsh in the 800m (1:44.46) and Ja’Qualon Scott in the 110m hurdles (13.34) remain at the top of the rankings in their respective events.
Tom Jones Memorial
The Maroon & White travel a group of 47 athletes to Gainesville which will be the home of the 2024 Outdoor SEC Championships in May. The group will compete against a field of over 25 schools, including nine programs from the SEC.
Along with the four national leaders in the Aggie group, they boast another five conference leaders, two of which will also make the trip to Gainesville. School record holder in the pole vault, Heather Abadie, makes the trip following another record-breaking performance at the 44 Farms Team invitational. She downed her previous best with a clearance of 4.36m/14-3.5. Lianna Davidson also makes the trip, she ranks second in the country in the women’s javelin with a mark of 57.28m/191-10 and has three event wins so far this year.

Bryan Clay Invitational
A&M is sending a group of 10 athletes to compete in the one of the most prestigious distance events in the country. The Aggies will compete April 11-13 across seven different events.
The group includes recent all-time list entry Kennady Fontenot, as she ran 10:18.59 to debut at No. 2 all-time in A&M history in the 3000m steeplechase. Emma Little also entered the record books this past week in the same event, crossing the line in 10:54.90 for No. 9 all-time. The remaining eight athletes all hold spots on the Maroon & White’s all-time list, while Victor Kibiego paces the men in the conference also in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 8:45.91.
