Texas A&M Track & Field Athlete Zaza Nnamdi Named USTFCCCA South Central Region Men’s Field Athlete of the Year

Texas A&M track & field’s Zaza Nnamdi was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Central Region Men’s Field Athlete of the Year, the organization announced Thursday.

Nnamdi set the standard nationally in the javelin this season, sweeping the postseason titles. He became the Aggies’ third NCAA champion in the event after recording a toss of 82.26m/269-10 on his opening attempt which held throughout. He also claimed the SEC crown with a mark of 81.20m/266-5 and was the only athlete to eclipse the 80m mark.

Earlier in the season Nnamdi cemented himself as one of the greatest throwers in NCAA history, as he recorded a personal-best throw of 84.68m/277-10 at the Tom Jones Memorial. The mark ranks at No. 2 in the A&M record book, No. 4 in NCAA history and No. 7 in African history.
