February’s quarterly meetings of the Texas A&M system board of regents included statements by two members in response to opponents of new policies restricting what can be taught at the system’s 12 universities.
In the beginning of the regents open public meeting, chairman Bob Albritton of Fort Worth responded to opponents of system policy 08.01 that was approved last December banning core curriculum classes from teaching topics related to sexual orientation, gender identity, and race and gender ideology.
Later in the open public meeting, A&M’s course review to comply with system policies 08.01 and 12.01, which was amended last November, was brought up by the chairman of the regents committee on academic and student affairs, Sam Torn of Houston.

At the end of the regents open public meeting, Albritton responded to public speakers who continued their opposition to system restrictions on what can be caught in core curriculum classes.
Action at the February 5th meeting included delegating to each university, the future review of core curriculum courses. Recommendations from each university will return to the regents for final action later this year.
Regents also amended its policy on mission statements at each university.
