The Texas A&M system board of regents could name an interim president at the flagship university on Friday afternoon (October 3).
The regents second special meeting in as many Fridays starts at 2:30 by again going behind closed doors…where the board spent more than four hours last week.
The agenda also calls for a private discussion about legal matters that could include settlement offers. This follows the regents action last week to approve a settlement offer to former president Mark Welsh.
A woman was arrested after stealing more than $125 worth of merchandise from the West Bryan Walmart. 69-year-old Arlene Elizabeth Hamblet is accused of stealing $125.79 worth of merchandise from the Walmart at 643 N. Harvey Mitchell Parkway on September 8. Police were called to the location just before 2:00pm on Tuesday after asset protection said Hamblet was concealing items in her purse. She went to the checkout and paid for items in her shopping cart, but not those in her purse. Hamblet was found with: Mickey Mouse Pop Socket: $19.97 NaturVet product: $18.88 Olay moisturizer 4-pack: $7.94 book: $5.00 clothing: $60.00 beef jerky: $2.00 Halloween themed earrings: $12.00 She allegedly told officers she was willing to go back and pay for the items, but it was too late. A woman was arrested for public intoxication Monday night after College Station police say she fled an emergency room wearing a hospital gown. Officers were called to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center around 8:30pm on Monday, September 7 after hospital staff reported that 47-year-old Carrie Adel Sharp, of Anacoco, LA, had run out of the emergency room. Sharp was located nearby, partially dressed in a hospital gown and wearing only one shoe. Staff told police that the woman had been brought in by Grimes County EMS for suspected narcotics use. According to arrest records, staff found a used syringe containing what they believed to be heroin inside her bra. Officers gave Sharp an opportunity to return to the ER voluntarily, but she refused. Police say she was intoxicated in a public place to the point that she could be a danger to herself. Sharp was arrested for Public Intoxication and booked into the Brazos County Jail. While her identification says she is from Louisiana, this is her 17th booking into the jail. She has 6 previous arrests for forgery of a financial instrument and theft. She was released on a $300 Personal Recognizance Bond.
A woman was arrested Monday night after Bryan police say she left a 9-month-old child alone inside a running vehicle in a Walmart parking lot. Officers responded to a welfare concern at the Walmart in the 2200 block of Briarcrest Drive around 9:30pm. A caller said there was an infant alone and crying inside a vehicle in the parking lot. 44-year-old Tasha Chawnta Martin of Bryan, had returned to the vehicle and was attempting to leave when officers arrived. According to arrest records, Martin told officers the 9-month-old boy was her godson. The child was sitting in a child safety seat in the front passenger seat, but was not restrained in the seat, not was the seat secured to the vehicle. Martin told police she had gone inside Walmart and had been in the store for less than five minutes. Dispatch records showed that seven minutes had passed between the initial call about finding the child and Martin’s return to the vehicle. Police contacted the child’s parents, who came to the scene and took custody of the infant. Martin was arrested for Abandonment of a Child with Intent to Return. She was booked into Brazos County Jail and has been released on $10,000 bond.
