Texas A&M Softball Takes Two from Georgia Saturday

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

ATHENS – The No. 4 Texas A&M softball team powered past No. 16 Georgia, 12-5, with three home runs to clinch the series after completing a doubleheader sweep on Saturday at Jack Turner Stadium. The Aggies run-ruled the Bulldogs in game one, 8-0, earlier in the day.

Texas A&M (34-5, 8-3 SEC) put itself behind the eight ball after a pair of errors and back-to-back jacks from Georgia (25-13, 4-10 SEC) as the Aggies trailed 4-0 with one out in the opening frame. Emily Leavitt entered the circle in relief and struck out a pair of Bulldogs to limit the damage. Leavitt continued to dominate the circle striking out the first two batters in the second, before yielding her first hit to Georgia in the fourth.

The Aggies answered back in the third inning after three straight singles from Kramer Eschete and Kennedy Powell before Amari Harper laced one through the right side to score Eschete. Mya Perez followed with a three-run tank to right field to even the score, 4-4, in the top of the third.

Ol’ Sarge’s charges took their first lead in the fifth after Mac Barbara lined a 2-RBI single down the right field line. With runners on the corners and one out, Allie Enright unloaded a three-run tater to the center field bleachers to give the Aggies a 9-4 advantage. Following a pitching change, KK Dement jumped on the first pitch to make it 10-4 in the fifth inning. Georgia added a run in the bottom half with a two-out single.

After a scoreless sixth frame, Texas A&M added a pair of runs as Dement singled up the middle to Koko Wooley and Enright. Sydney Lessentine entered the circle in the sixth and struck out two batters before striking out two more in the final frame as the Aggies clinched the series with a 12-5 victory.

Emily Leavitt moved to 3-0 on the season after pitching 4.2 innings and striking out five, while yielding three hits, three walks and one run.

The series win marks the third in SEC play for the Aggies this season, while Texas A&M has won 14-of-20 SEC series in the Trisha Ford era.
