News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
BATON ROUGE – The No. 12 Texas A&M softball team was doomed by a seven-run sixth inning losing to No. 7 LSU, 9-3, in Saturday’s series finale at Tiger Park.
Texas A&M (28-7, 8-4 SEC) mustered three runs in the second as Kennedy Powell hit a two-out bases-clearing triple down the right field line to lead 3-0 in the second inning.
LSU (29-4, 8-4 SEC) answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, as the Aggies held on to a 3-2 lead. The Tigers pressured again the following inning with runners on the corners and one out, before Emiley Kennedy struck out a batter looking, followed by Kramer Eschete making a gold glove leaping catch to end the inning.
The Aggies spoiled an opportunity to increase the narrow lead in the top of the sixth by leaving two runners on base, including one in scoring position.
Leading 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth, the Aggies lost control as the Tigers plated seven runs on five hits, three walks and two errors.
Kennedy (14-5) suffered the loss after 5.0 innings with three strikeouts, while allowing five runs on six hits.
