Texas A&M Softball Sweeps LSU

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 3 Texas A&M softball team swept the No. 6 LSU Tigers, 4-1, to extend its winning streak to 11 games Sunday afternoon at Davis Diamond.

Texas A&M (37-5, 11-3 SEC) and LSU (35-8, 8-7 SEC) battled in a pitcher’s duel through three scoreless innings as Aggie starter Emily Leavitt left three Tigers stranded, including two in scoring position. Leavitt yielded her lone walk of the game to begin the fourth before forcing a strikeout, ground out and pop up, while leaving a Tiger standing on third base to end the top half.

The Aggies broke the ice in the bottom of the fourth as KK Dement dinged a three-run home run off the video board. Koko Wooley reached base on a one-out single to right field and advanced to second on a wild pitch, followed by a walk from Allie Enright. Dement drilled a 0-1 count to left field to make it a 3-0 score. Texas A&M added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth after Kennedy Powell tripled to right field and scored via sacrifice fly from Amari Harper.

Aggie All-American Emiley Kennedy entered the circle with a 4-0 lead in the sixth inning and earned her third save of the season after going 2.0 innings with two strikeouts and yielding two walks, one run and three hits.

Texas A&M travels to Columbia to take on the Missouri Tigers beginning Thursday at 6 p.m., at the Mizzou Softball Stadium. The series continues Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m. Games one and two can be streamed on the SECN+, while the series finale is featured nationally on the SEC Network.

  • Amari Harper extended her on-base streak to a career-high 17 games after earning her 10th walk of the season in the opening frame. Kennedy Powell extended her on-base streak to 13 games after she was hit-by-pitch in the third inning. Allie Enright extended her career-high on-base streak to 19 games after she walked in the fourth inning.
  • Koko Wooley singled in the fourth inning for the 226th hit of her career moving her into sole possession of No. 8 in the Texas A&M all-time hits list. The senior added a walk and a run to finish the day.
  • KK Dement belted her ninth home run of the season, a three-run shot off the videoboard in the fourth inning. THe freshman led the team with five RBI on the weekend, while being the lone Aggie to record at least one RBI in each game of the series.
  • Junior Kennedy Powell added her second triple of the season, finishing the day 1-for-2 with 1 R, and 1 HBP. Powell led the Aggies in the series with six runs, while going 4-for-8 at the dish with a double, triple and four hit-by-pitches.
  • Senior Emily Leavitt earned her fourth win of the season going 4.0 scoreless innings, while yielding only one walk and one hit.
  • Freshman Kate Munnerlyn made her second appearance in as many days tossing 1.0 inning and yielding only one walk in the fifth frame.
  • The Aggies swept a top 10 SEC series at home for the first time since No. 7 Ole Miss in 2018, while the sweep of LSU is a program first.
  • Texas A&M has swept two SEC series back-to-back this season, the first time in program history.
  • A&M’s 11-3 start in SEC play matches a program-best start through 14 games since 2017.
  • No scorigami. Today’s 4-1 victory is the 60th time in program history.
