BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M softball head coach Trisha Ford added catcher Olivia “Ojo” Johnson. The senior transfer has spent the previous three seasons at Washington.
“Ojo is a great addition to our program, and we are happy to have her return to the Lone Star state,” Ford said. “We needed to add an experienced catcher from the portal, Ojo has that experience collegiately and internationally. We are excited about her tools defensively and that she can add power to the lineup.”
The Pearland, Texas, native has appeared in 135 career games, including 112 starts at catcher and designated player, while helping lead the Huskies to the regionals all three seasons and a Women’s College World Series appearance in 2023. The catcher owns a .257 batting average, .483 slugging percentage and .409 on-base percentage, including 19 home runs and 65 RBI.
Johnson is coming off a career-high .300 batting average a season ago when she recorded 27 hits, including three doubles, four home runs in 90 at-bats, while adding 21 RBI and scoring 15 runs. She recorded three 4-RBI games, including the series opener at No. 22 Oregon before finishing the weekend hitting 6-for-12 at the plate with a double and home run.
As a freshman, Johnson earned Pac-12 All-Freshman team and NFCA All-Region Second team honors after finishing with 11 home runs, four doubles, 25 RBI and 23 runs. She led the Washington freshman in home runs and batting average (.261), while leading the Huskies with 31 walks.
Internationally, Johnson helped lead team USA to a 2021 WBSC U-18 gold medal hitting .313 at the plate, including five singles, three RBI and five runs scored in the tournament. In the qualifying tournament she was 8-for-15 at the dish with two doubles, eight RBI and eight runs.
