BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 6 Texas A&M softball team is set to host a pair of midweek games beginning Tuesday against Sam Houston and Wednesday against North Texas. Both games are slated for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
Texas A&M (26-5) is 107-15 all-time against Sam Houston (17-15), including a 59-5 record at home. The Maroon & White is also 7-1 all-time against North Texas (22-10), with a 6-1 mark in Aggieland. The Aggies swept the two teams in midweek action at Davis Diamond last season defeating the Bearkats, 7-3, and dominating the Mean Green in a 12-0 run-rule in five innings. Each midweek can be streamed on SEC Network+, while all Aggie softball games can be heard on the 12th Man Mobile app or locally on Willy 1550 AM. AGGIES IN NON-CON ACTION
The Aggies are 20-2 in non-conference games this season, including an 11-1 record at Davis Diamond. Notable victories include a pair of top 10 wins at No. 8 Florida State and home wins against No. 13 Texas Tech and No. 19 Baylor. Texas A&M averages .341 at the dish and have outscored its opponents 164-54, while the pitching staff boasts a 1.78 ERA. Mya Perez leads the offense with a .456/.590/.807 slash line, including five home runs, 26 hits and 31 RBI. Sydney Lessentine leads the pitching staff with 42 strikeouts in 23.0 innings of work with a 4-0 record, including three complete games and two shutouts. The freshman is holding non-conference opponents to a .092 batting average, while she has only yielded three extra base hits.
HOME OF THE 12TH MAN
Texas A&M owns a 152-48 (.760) record at Davis Diamond since it opened on April 27, 2018, and 60-12 in the Ford era. The Aggies are 41-6 the last two seasons, including a 14-4 record in 2025. The Aggies have posted six of the program’s top 10 attendance marks this season, including a program record 2,754 against Texas Tech on March 1, after having 2,522 against George Washington on Feb. 28. In the SEC series opener against No. 3 Florida, the 12th Man totaled 6,916, marking the highest three-game series total in Davis Diamond history. The 12th Man is regarded as one of the most dedicated fan bases in the nation. The Aggies rank No. 5 in the nation averaging 2,239 per game this season.
SUPER SOPHOMORE
Mya Perez has had a super sophomore season leading the Aggies in numerous batting categories, including home runs (7), RBI (38), slugging percentage (.738), walks (17) and total bases (59). Perez has reached base safely in 29-of-31 games this season for the Aggies. The infielder leads the team with 11 multi-RBI games, including seven games with at-least three RBI and three games with four RBI. Situationally, Perez has capitalized on opportunities batting as leadoff going 5-for-11, including two home runs and two walks. Perez introduced herself to the college softball world hitting her first home run, a three-run shot, in game two of the 2024 NCAA Super Regional to send the game into extra innings in Austin. The Corona, Calif., native dedicated her summertime to getting stronger mentally and physically before she returned in the fall to eventually win the starting position at first base.
MAC ATTACK
On opening weekend of the season, graduate Mac Barbara wasted no time introducing herself to the 12th Man as she belted three home runs and drove in 13 runs. Barbara finished the six games 7-for-16, three home runs, one double and had an astronomical 1.613 OPS. In 15 games against ranked opponents, Barbara leads the team with 18 RBI, while adding three doubles and two home runs. Barbara has been heating up in the last 10 games slashing .464/.516/.607, including 13 hits, one home run, nine RBI and five runs. The sixth-year player has appeared in 200-plus games, while boasting a .364 career batting average, 208 hits, 49 home runs and 183 RBI. Her 49 career round trippers is ninth most on the active career home run leader list entering this week.
