Texas A&M Softball Run-Rules Kennesaw State, Saint Mary’s in Twin Bill

News release from Texas A&M Athletics: 

The No. 15 Texas A&M softball team run-ruled Kennesaw State, 11-2, in six innings and Saint Mary’s, 12-1, in five innings, Saturday night at Davis Diamond.

Texas A&M (14-7) totaled 23 runs on 22 hits, including five doubles and four home runs, in the two victories. The Aggies batted .448 (13-for-29) with runners on base, while the pitching staff held opponents to a .135 batting average (5-for-37).

Mya Perez led the offense with 11 total bases, going 4-for-4 with two home runs, five RBI, four runs and two walks. KK Dement went 4-for-7 with two home runs, six RBI and four runs. Ariel Kowalewski and Kennedy Powell each scored three runs and hit a double, while Powell stole three bases.

Sidne Peters earned the win in both games to improve to 6-2 on the season. She totaled 7.2 innings, allowing one run on one hit and two walks. In the opener, she tossed 2.2 scoreless innings in relief with three strikeouts. In the nightcap, she threw a one-hit complete game, allowing one run and one walk with three strikeouts.

The Aggies scored four runs on three hits and three free bases in the first inning against Kennesaw State (4-13). The Owls cut the deficit with runs in the third and fourth innings. After Texas A&M plated a run in the fourth, Dement led off the fifth with a home run to extend the lead to 6-2.

Ol’ Sarge’s charges added five runs on four hits in the sixth. Perez hit a two-run home run after Tallen Edwards led off with a double. Micaela Wark followed with a walk before Kowalewski lined an RBI double to right-center to make it 9-2. Dement hit her second home run of the game to end the contest via run rule, 11-2.

Texas A&M struck first against Saint Mary’s (10-7) when Powell scored on a sacrifice fly by Perez. After a scoreless second inning, the Aggies sent 12 batters to the plate and scored eight runs on five hits in the third to take a 9-0 lead.

The Gaels mustered their first hit in the fourth with a one-out triple and later scored on an RBI groundout to make it 9-1.

Perez answered in the bottom of the fourth with a leadoff 234-foot home run to center field. Paislie Allen added an RBI single and Gracyn Coleman drew a bases-loaded walk to complete the scoring. Peters retired the side on a pop-up, strikeout and flyout to end the game, 12-1.
