Texas A&M Softball Outblasts Tarleton State

News release from Texas A&M Athletics: 

The No. 15 Texas A&M softball team scored a season high 15 runs to run-rule Tarleton State in five innings, 15-2, Friday afternoon at Bobcat Softball Stadium.

Texas A&M (17-7) totaled six extra base hits, including three home runs. Mya Perez led the Aggies going 2-for-2 with three RBI, a double and a moonshot for her 10th homer of the season. Perez, along with Tallen Edwards, Micaela Wark, Ariel Kowalewski and KK Dement drove in multiple runs, while Edwards and Kennedy Powell scored three runs each.

Senior Grace Sparks earned her second win in the circle tossing 4.0 IP with three strikeouts, while allowing one run on one hit and one walk.

The Aggies got started against Tarleton State (16-8) scoring on three free bases and two hits to gain a 3-0 lead in the opening frame. Ol’ Sarge’s charge carried momentum into the second inning, blasting three home runs. Kelsey Mathis hit the first bomb followed by back-to-back jacks from Edwards and Perez to give the Aggies a 9-0 lead in the top of the second.

Perez began the scoring in the third with a double to right as Frankie Vrazel and Powell scored. Micaela Wark followed with a two-RBI single to center and Paislie Allen grounded out to first, scoring Wark to set a 13 run deficit, 14-1.

Sophomore Larisa Perez recorded her first career RBI, scoring Powell on a ground out for the lone run in the top of the fourth inning to round out the scoring for the Aggies, 15-1.

Taylor Brown made her first career appearance in the circle recording a strikeout, while allowing a run on one hit to close out the Texans, 15-2.
