AUURN – The No. 6 Texas A&M softball team is set for its first SEC road test at No. 22 Auburn beginning the three-game set on Friday at 5 p.m. at the Jane B. Moore Field.
Texas A&M (21-4, 1-2 SEC) continues the series Saturday at 3 p.m., while the series finale against Auburn (20-5, 0-3 SEC) is Sunday at 2 p.m. The bookend games can be streamed on SEC Network+, while Saturday game is featured on SEC Network with Mark Neely (play-by-play) and Madison Shipman (analyst) on the call.
MY OH MYA
Mya Perez has been on a tear as of late hitting .467 at the dish in the last 10 games. The sophomore has eight hits, including two home runs and two doubles with seven RBI, five hit-by-pitches and three walks. The infielder leads the team with 10 multi-RBI games, including six games with at-least three RBI and three games with four RBI. Perez is entering the weekend with a 20 game on-base streak Perez introduced herself to the college softball world hitting her first home run, a three-run shot, in game two of the 2024 NCAA Super Regional to send the game into extra innings in Austin. The Corona, Calif., native dedicated her summertime to getting stronger mentally and physically before she returned in the fall to eventually win the starting position at first base.
KENNEDY POW-POW-ELL
Kennedy Powell began the season with a career-best 19-game on-base streak, including an 11-game hit streak. In the last 10 games, the junior has been one of the main offensive sparks leading the team with a .467 batting average going 14-for-30, including two doubles, 10 runs and two stolen bases. Powell has played a part in all three of Texas A&M’s walk-off wins, including the game winning run in the SEC opener against No. 3 Florida, hitting a walk-off single against Texas State and placing a textbook squeeze bunt to beat Southeastern Louisiana. The third baseman has kept the hot corner contained and is one of four Aggies to have started every game this season.
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
Freshmen KK Dement, Sydney Lessentine and Frankie Vrazel have made themselves comfortable being small fish in a little pond. Dement has started all 25 games this season, including 18 starts at second base and seven at shortstop, while Vrazel has started all by two games in right field. Vrazel, a Danbury, Texas, product has reached base safely in nine of the last 10 games and boasts a team-best .346 batting average against ranked opponents while going 9-for-26 with two doubles, four RBI and six runs. Vrazel is hitting .583 at the dish when leading off going 7-for-12, with two walks and one hit-by-pitch. A native of Selma, Calif., Dement leads the Aggies with six home runs and 15 two-out RBI. Her six dingers rank 13th in the nation among freshmen and third in the SEC. She is the lone Aggie this year to have hit a solo jack, two-run home run, three-run home run and grand slam. Lessentine was a 2024 Gatorade High School New Mexico Softball Player of the Year out of Alamogordo, N.M. The right-handed pitcher is 4-0 on the season winning each start she’s made, including three complete games and two shutouts.
