Texas A&M Softball Earns First No. 1 Ranking in Program History

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M softball program earned its first national No. 1 ranking in program history after being named the consensus No. 1 by all four nationally-recognized polls.

ESPN.com/USA Softball, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, Softball America, and D1 Softball each voted Texas A&M No. 1 for Week 10. The NFCA is the longest standing of the four nationally-recognized polls and has released weekly rankings since 1995. Since the inception of the poll, the program reached as high as No. 2 on four occasions, including Week 8 of the 2007 season, as well as Week 1, Week 4 and the final poll of the 2008 campaign. Texas A&M received 24 first-place votes from the 31 NCAA Division I head coaches on the committee.

A&M’s highest ranking in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll came at No. 2 in the 2008 season. The ESPN.com/USA Softball is the second-longest nationally-recognized poll, which has been releasing weekly rankings since 2003. Softball America has been recognizing national rankings since 2019, while D1 Softball has been doing so since 2020. Texas A&M is the first program in 79 polls to earn the No. 1 ranking outside of Oklahoma, Texas or UCLA.

The Maroon & White are riding a season-best 12-game win streak with a 37-5 overall record, while sitting atop the SEC standings with an 11-3 ledger. Texas A&M travels to Columbia to take on the Missouri Tigers beginning Thursday at 6 p.m., at the Mizzou Softball Stadium. The series continues Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m. Games one and two can be streamed on the SECN+, while the series finale is featured nationally on the SEC Network.

Texas A&M is a three-time national championship program, including NCAA titles in 1983 and 1987, while winning the AIAW national title in 1982. The Aggies’ last Women’s College World Series appearance came in 2017, while head coach Trisha Ford returned the program to its first Super Regional appearance since 2018 in only her second season in Aggieland in 2024.
