BATON ROUGE – The No. 12 Texas A&M softball team fell to No. 7 LSU, 2-1, in eight innings, Thursday night at Tiger Park.
Texas A&M (28-5, 8-2 SEC) pressured in the opening frame loading the bases with back-to-back singles and back-to-back walks as Amari Harper crossed home plate to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead. After walking the first batter in the bottom half, Emiley Kennedy sat down 11 straight before LSU (27-4, 6-4 SEC) loaded the bases with two-outs after a walk, single and hit-by-pitch in the fourth inning as the Aggies escaped the threat.
The Tigers evened the score in the fifth after a leadoff double and fielding error began the inning with two on base and no outs. Rylen Wiggins turned a double play tagging the runner out heading to second, before flipping it over to first. With one out and a runner on third, LSU knotted it up after an infield single.
Each pitcher sent opposing batters down in order as the pitcher’s duel continued through the sixth inning, while each team only mustered one runner on base in the seventh.
The Aggies stranded a runner on first in the eighth inning after a ground out, line out and walk, before a strikeout looking ended the top half of the eighth. Taylor Pleasants ended the game in the bottom half with a one-out solo home run to center field.
Emiley Kennedy (14-4) was saddled with the loss after tossing 7.1 innings with four strikeouts, while allowing two runs on five hits and two walks.

First pitch of game two in the three-game set is slated for Friday at 5 p.m. at Tiger Park.
