The No. 12 Texas A&M softball team dropped a twin bill to No. 1 Oklahoma, 4-3 and 6-4, Saturday afternoon at Davis Diamond.
Texas A&M (36-16, 16-8 SEC) mounted late rallies in both games of Saturday’s doubleheader, but came up short as Oklahoma (48-7, 20-4 SEC) capitalized on 15 free passes, including 13 walks and two hit batters across the two contests.
Tallen Edwards paced the Aggie offense, going 4-for-7 with a home run and a double. Kennedy Powell also recorded multiple hits on the day, including a solo homer, while Paislie Allen added a three-run blast in Game 2. Kelsey Mathis chipped in multiple hits.
In Game 1, the teams traded three scoreless innings before Oklahoma broke through in the fourth, scoring three runs on two hits and three walks.
Texas A&M answered in the fifth, cutting the deficit to one when Frankie Vrazel singled and Powell launched a two-run homer to right. Edwards followed with a solo shot to knot the game at 3-3.
The Sooners reclaimed the lead in the sixth on a two-out RBI triple down the right-field line and held on for the 4-3 win.
Kate Munnerlyn (3-5) was charged with the loss after tossing 2.1 innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out one. Sidne Peters started and worked 3.2 innings with four strikeouts, surrendering three runs on three hits and four walks. In the rubber match, Oklahoma jumped out early with a solo home run before adding a two-out three-run homer later in the inning for a 4-0 lead.
After three consecutive scoreless frames from both teams, the Sooners added a run in the fifth on a fielding error before a solo homer in the sixth pushed the lead to 6-0.
Facing their final three outs, the Aggies mounted one last rally, scoring four runs on three hits. Mathis drove in a run with an RBI single before Allen blasted a three-run homer, but Oklahoma recorded the final two outs to secure the 6-4 victory.
Sydney Lessentine (14-4) took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits and one walk across 2.0 innings. Taylor Pannell followed with 3.0 innings, striking out three while allowing two runs on three hits and four walks. Sparks closed the game with 2.0 scoreless innings.
