Texas A&M Soccer Takes on No. 4 Arkansas in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE – The Texas A&M soccer team wraps up its road conference slate Thursday as the Aggies travel to No. 4 Arkansas. Match time is 6:30 p.m. at Razorback Field.

The Aggies (8-7-1, 3-4-1) are in eighth place in the SEC standings with 10 points and must stay in the top 12 to qualify for the SEC Tournament.

Last time out, the Maroon & White played a seesaw game against LSU, resulting in a 2-2 draw. After a scoreless first half, MaKhiya McDonald broke the scoring seal, but the Tigers took the lead after two quick goals. In the 81st minute, Sydney Becerra buried a free kick from 22 yards out to secure a point for the Aggies.

Texas A&M owns an 8-7-0 slight edge in the all-time series, but Arkansas enters the match winning six straight, including last season at Ellis Field. The last three matches have the Razorbacks as 1-0 winners and 10 of the last 11 matches have been decided by one goal, including two overtime decisions. The Maroon & White’s first match in the modern era came against Arkansas on September 6, 1993 with the Razorbacks pulling out a 2-1 overtime victory in Plano, Texas.

Becerra leads Texas A&M in scoring with 17 points on six goals and five assists. Grace Ivey has four goals on the year. Mia Pante and McDonald both sit at eight points each tallying three goals and two assists.

The Maroon & White have posted six shutouts through 16 matches, including blank slates by three different netminders. In the SEC opener, Sydney Fuller recorded her third shutout of the season. She owns a 1.18 goals against average in her ten starts. Grace McClellan has two shutouts and Maysen Veronda recorded a 5-0 win against Lamar in the opener before a season-ending injury.

Arkansas is amid a successful season at 12-1-1 overall and 7-1-0 in conference play. Ava Tankersley leads the Razorbacks with 28 points, ranking 11th in the country. She has scored 10 goals and provided eight assists. Kate Doyle and Anaiyah Robinson have each contributed nine goals this season, strengthening the nation’s top-ranked scoring offense, which averages 4.14 goals per game.
