Texas A&M Soccer Falls to Texas

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

AUSTIN – The Texas A&M soccer team was upended by the No. 13 Texas Longhorns, 2-0, Sunday evening at Mike A. Myers Stadium in the renewal of the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown.

Texas (9-1-2, 2-1-1 SEC) scored in the eighth minute and added another midway through the opening act to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission.

Texas A&M (7-5-0, 2-2-0 SEC) was unable to break the scoring seal despite peppering 15 shots, including five shots-on-goal. As has been the case on three occasions this season, the Maroon & White lost despite holding an advantage in shots, owning a 15-13 edge Sunday.

The Aggies stepped up their assault in the second half, outshooting Texas 11-6 and owning a 5-3 edge in corner kicks, but to no avail.

GOAL SUMMARY

8’ | Amailia Villareal gathered the ball 25 yards out and plowed through the A&M defense before putting a shot past the keeper from eight yards. UT 1, A&M 0.

28’ | From just outside the penalty arc, Villareal slotted a perfect through ball to Ashlyn Miller charging toward the penalty spot. Miller needed just two touches to push a shot past the keeper. UT 2, A&M 0.
