The Texas A&M soccer team opened the 2027 campaign on a high note, beating the Incarnate Word Cardinals, 3-0, Wednesday night in head coach Bobby Shuttleworth’s debut at Ellis Field.
Leah Diaz led the Aggies with a goal and assist. Fellow returnee Holly Storer also found the back of the net.
Three newcomers tallied points for the Aggies, Ireland Churchill scored a goal while Blake Hughes and Finley Lacher both provided assists.
The Maroon & White outshot the Cardinals 11-5 in the opening half with a 4-2 margin in shots-on-goal to take a 2-0 advantage into the intermission.
Texas A&M held an 18-6 cushion in total shots, with a 6-2 edge in shots-on-goal for the game. The Aggies also had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
In goal, Texas A&M’s three keepers all combined to produce a clean sheet on the night. Makenna August played the whole first half, recording the Aggies’ only two saves in the game.

59’ | Trinity Buchanan led the Aggies on a breakaway finding Diaz at the top of the box. Diaz’s strike was expertly saved off the crossbar only for Holly Storer to finish the rebound from inside the six-yard box. A&M 3, UIW 0
