Texas A&M Set to Hire Samford’s Bucky McMillan as Next Men’s Basketball Coach

Texas A&M is set to hire Samford men’s basketball coach Bucky McMillan for the head coaching vacancy left by Buzz Williams, according to multiple sources. The sides are finalizing a five-year deal, per sources.

McMillan is 41 years old and has been at Samford since 2020. In five seasons at Samford, he had a 99-52 overall record and is a three-time Southern Conference Coach of the Year. McMillan took Samford to the NCAA Tournament in the 2023-2024 season. The team lost in the first round to Kansas. Samford went 22-11 last season and participated in the NIT, falling to George Mason in the first round.

Before joining Samford, McMillan was the head coach at Mountain Brook, where he also played for four seasons from 02-06.

McMillan adopts a depleted Texas A&M roster after last season’s run to the round of 32 at the NCAA Tournament.
