Bryan City Council Takes Next Step Towards Limiting Some Downtown Parking

The Bryan city council at its February workshop meeting directed staff to formalize recommendations to limit some downtown parking and how to enforce the future restrictions. Portions of a three block area along Main Street and Bryan Avenue would be limited to two hour parking weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. This would affect 245 spaces out of more than 2,200, not including the downtown parking garage. City staff is working on the future acquisition of license plate readers that can be used by code enforcement officers to monitor violations. The areas of limited parking would be located in front of store fronts to allow for the circulation of retail customers. College Station City Council Supports An Ohio Developer’s Request To Receive State Tax Credits To Build An Apartment Complex For Low Income Residents

A proposed 60 unit apartment complex for low income renters in College Station could open in less than two years. That’s after the College Station city council supported a resolution at their last meeting for a developer based in Ohio to request tax credits from the state. The location of the proposed complex is off Harvey Mitchell Parkway just east of Texas. Representing the developer, Harrison LaHaie says this is not targeted to students due to IRS requirements. The developer, which acts as its own general contractor and management company, will find out if the state awards tax credits this July. If approved, construction would start next January and be completed at the end of 2028. A member of College Station’s housing action plan steering committee, Valen Cepak, says the advisory body supports the project. Community development analyst David Brower says the applicant is pretty sure the state will award tax credits. That’s based on the developer’s involvement to this stage, including doing a pre-development conference with the city staff. College Station Police Seize Illegal Drugs, Cash, Precious Metals, And Guns

College Station police conducting a search warrant on Monday (February 16) in a home near Lyons Park seize illegal drugs, cash, precious metals, and guns. A CSPD Facebook post says the drugs that were collected were 3.67 pounds of marijuana, 207.8 grams of THC concentrates, 120 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, and a large amount of drug paraphernalia including packaging for re-sale. The street value of the drugs was not disclosed. CSPD also collected $15,673 dollars in cash and approximately $3,500 dollars in precious metals that are believed to be the proceeds of illegal drug sales. And officers found two guns. CSPD arrest reports says one of two residents was arrested. 24 year old Charles Wingate told officers that everything in the home on Preston Street belonged to him. The second resident, who was not identified, said they had no knowledge of the illegal items. As of February 17, Wingate remains jailed in lieu of bonds totaling $100,000 on felony charges of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana in a drug free zone.
